Murder Shoes EP Release Show

Oh yes, the new Murder Shoes EP from Land Ski Records is now out there, cavorting with other songs, rubbing up against your computer hard drive, or better yet, monoplizing your cd player. Don't have a cd? You can pick one of those bad boys up this Sunday at our release show at The Red Stag, here in lovely Minneapolis. If everything works out, we'll also have cd copies of our debut single, Cash On Fire, loaded with extras. While we are playing plenty of shows this month, this Sunday's show will be very special, as we'll be playing songs off the first single, the new EP, a future EP that will come out in July, and some new songs that may or may not be on our upcoming full length. It's the past, present, and future...and the future future.

You can find the EP HERE or at ze show.

Edie Overturf & Derek Van Gieson Exhibition

This Friday, September 19th, will be the opening of In Search Of, a joint concept exhibition between Edie Overturf and myself at Public Functionary, a gallery in Northeast Minneapolis. Edie's woodcuts and reliefs will join my paintings and drawings in a show that riffs on the creation myths and histories found in folklore, religion, and mythology.

Our idea was to develop five tribes and for each of us to elaborate upon and document two of them. We worked on these separately and shared our progress halfway through the show's development in order to gain access to each other's story lines for use in repeating and overlapping motifs. Each tribe has a unique way in how they depict themselves and others in their history, in this way, we also riff on our own history and the history of other nations.

In Search Of Exhibition
Opening Friday, September 19th 2014 7pm to 12am
